AdBlue Delete and Removal describe different approaches to an SCR warning or restart countdown. This guide explains the terminology, the limits of fault codes and the checks needed before choosing work. Send your registration, warning details and postcode so vehicle specification and mobile availability can be checked.

01Understanding the service
Delete generally refers to software changes intended to disable SCR functions or monitoring. Removal may mean the same thing in service descriptions, or it may refer to physical work on the tank, pump, injector or other components. Neither term means the underlying hardware fault has been repaired. SCR control can involve the engine ECU and separate modules, so the scope cannot be established from an engine size or model name alone. Ask for a clear description of the proposed work rather than assuming it will eliminate every warning or restart restriction.
Repair starts with fault-code reading, relevant live data and targeted tests. Possible causes include low or unsuitable fluid, pressure loss, injector deposits, heater faults, damaged wiring and NOx sensor faults. Some vehicles combine the pump, heater or level-sensing components within a tank assembly; the dosing injector and NOx sensors are normally separate. A software update or adaptation procedure may be appropriate where specified by the manufacturer, but it is not a substitute for correcting a damaged component.
Symptoms can include an AdBlue warning, an engine warning lamp, reduced power or a distance-to-no-restart message. The response depends on the vehicle and fault; not every SCR code causes a countdown. A no-restart restriction generally concerns restarting the engine rather than an instruction for the system to stop a running engine. Follow the vehicle handbook and seek prompt assessment if a countdown appears. Codes identify a detected condition, not necessarily the component that needs replacing.
AdBlue fitment varies by engine, production date and emissions specification, not simply the badge or registration year. Peugeot and Citroën BlueHDi applications use SCR, but tank design and service procedures differ between versions. Only SCR-equipped TDI and Mercedes-Benz diesel variants are relevant to this guide. Tank, pump and NOx sensor faults can occur across different makes, but a warning alone does not establish tank deformation or sensor failure. Send your registration so the likely specification can be checked; VIN information or diagnostic identification may be needed to confirm the fitted hardware.
An anti-pollution message can cover faults beyond the AdBlue system, so assessment should include all relevant control modules. AdBlue freezes at approximately -11°C, and SCR systems are designed to manage this with heating and controlled thawing. A cold-weather warning therefore needs checks rather than an assumption that the tank has failed. Communication faults likewise require power supply, earth and network checks before a module is condemned.

Customer questions
Still unsure? Send us your registration and a photo of the warning on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppAdBlue Delete describes software changes intended to disable some or all SCR dosing, monitoring and related fault responses. The implementation varies by vehicle and controller. It does not repair defective hardware, and it should not be described as a guaranteed cure for every warning, reduced-power condition or restart restriction.
AdBlue Removal is often used as another name for software deletion, but it can also mean physically removing or disconnecting SCR components. These are different operations, so any quote should specify what is included. Removing hardware alone can cause faults and does not restore SCR operation.
AdBlue Repair aims to restore correct SCR operation by identifying and correcting the underlying fault. Delete changes how the system operates or is monitored rather than repairing it. The appropriate diagnostic work depends on the warning, stored codes and vehicle specification.
AdBlue Fix is a broad term rather than a specific procedure. Depending on the confirmed cause, it might involve correcting a low fluid level, repairing wiring, replacing a failed component or applying a manufacturer-specified software update. Clearing codes or resetting adaptations alone will not normally resolve an active underlying fault.
Send your registration, postcode, mileage, dashboard message and any diagnostic codes. Your registration helps identify the likely vehicle specification, while your postcode allows mobile coverage to be checked. VIN details, an ECU identification scan or component inspection may still be needed to confirm the exact equipment fitted.
Yes. Send a clear photo of the warning and any countdown, together with your registration and fault codes if available. This helps with initial assessment, but a photo cannot confirm which component has failed.
Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
